BAD NEWS. Considering the forecast, we are cancelling the work day this Sun. We will pick another date and announce it soon.  Crying or Very sad

Perry Lake Work Day
Sunday April 13
CANCELLED

Details at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Just like we did with School Creek ORV at Milford, we are coordinating with the US Army Corps of Engineers to clean up the trails at Perry Lake.

We'll be trimming branches off the trails, trimming the grass along the perimeter fence and spraying for weeds, and constructing a creek crossing using a conduit and gravel.

The Corps has given us the green-light on bringing our UTV Side-by-Sides to help. They will open the gate to allow the wider vehicles onto the trails. The park will be closed to recreational use that day. We envision needing vehicles that can haul gravel from where the Corps dumps the pile to the creek where we plan to construct the crossing.

There will be LOTS of work, so help us rally the troops!  Very Happy

Troy any ideal if skid steers or other equipment can be brought in to help

Great question! So we got the OK for utility side-by-sides but the response I got regarding skid steers was "not sure we are comfortable with folks running tractors in those trails and hills".

I agree with that, but, one of the projects will require moving gravel from wherever the Corps is able to dump it to the creek where we plan to build the crossing. A small skid steer (Bobcat) is exactly what will be needed I believe.

Many of you might know Stu -- rides KTM dirt bikes and has been riding Perry for decades. It is thanks to him and his relationship with the Corps that this day is possible. I am working with them to understand specifically where we plan to build the crossing (Stu knows the spot) and how close the Corps will be able to put the gravel pile.

I don't think we want to open a public invitation for folks to bring tractors and such, but, if one or two folks own a skid steer and really know how to operate it safely, it is my hope that I can get specific permission for it. We'll need it.

Feel free to contact me directly at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.].

Thanks!

Troy, do we bring chainsaws and such to help clean up the trails?

Yup Yup  Very Happy  That's what we did in Manhattan when we did those trails. A group of about 3-4 or 5 would head out on a trail with a couple of people with chain saws and then a couple people to drag the stuff off the trails. So you don't need a saw to help.

Troy, we do have a member that has a Bobcat who is a very safety oriented seems how he works at the Ford plant. I'll get in touch with him to see if he has his transmission installed back in his truck to pull his Bobcat & trailer.

UPDATE: I have conversed with Jerry Gallion and he will plan on being there bright eyed, bushy tailed and bring his Bobcat. He has a grapple bucket, mower and tooth bucket if needed.

Great to see so many people willing to help. That's awesome that Jerry Gallion is willing to bring his Bobcat. I still don't have the official OK from the Corps for that, but I will work hard to get that an update here when I get it. As long as they understand that he is professional and safe with it, I think we'll get the green light.

Troy I have no problem bringing my bobcat even if we don't get the ok. We may be there and they realize we need one and say can you get one and mokan can say yep it in the parking lot. If they need references I can get them. Like Bryan said I have a grapple bucket , and a mower for it I can bring. The bucket will be a must for the creek crossing. I have forks to if you think we may need it. If were able to do this I would like to keep the people working on the crossing to a minimum for safty reasons and a spotter.

Jerry, we got permission for you to use your Bobcat. Reece, with the Corps, says to be aware that it might not even fit down there, but if not, we'll probably find other uses for it.

THANK YOU

OUCH. Of course we understand. However, your Bobcat was the only assurance I had we could get that crossing built.  Smile

Any of you guys have a utility side-by-side with a good bed that could haul a bit of gravel?

Considering the terrain and the potentially steep climbs and descents involved with a bucket full of gravel, we'd want someone with a relatively high degree of experience and comfort operating a Bobcat.

I grew up on the farm driving all kinds of tractors and equipment my whole life. My Pop owns a small Catapillar skidsteer that I've operated several hours and got comfortable with, but I would not consider myself a Bobcat operation expert. I know the controls on a Bobcat are slightly different than the Catapillars.

If nobody steps up claiming a high level of expertise with one, I am confident that I could safely operate it after getting comfortable with the controls in the open area for a bit. I'd be concerned about my lack of experience with one in the crazy terrain required to get down to the creek.

I do have a Ford F-150 truck that I assume could pull your trailer---and I have lots of trailer pulling experience.

While I want you to earn double-time, I hope it works out for you to come help and operate your Bobcat, Jerry!
