I just bought a 2007 Kawasaki KFX-400. It runs perfect. The previous owner painted it and it is chipping off. I was wondering if anyone on here has ever painted the plastics on theirs and what they used. Thanks!

It is darn near impossible to paint plastics like that. The fenders flex so much while riding that it will crack and peel 99% of the time. The best thing to do if you want to paint them is to cut the fenders to look like race fenders. They wont have any give that way.

heck I would check ebay and see if you can not just buy a set of plastics for it

very cool color scheme, I like the orange and black , different for sure lol. If it were me I would clear coat it 4 times and have an orange tiger stripe look

Oh and yeah I have painted a quad, I used "Krylon Fusion" paint and it was a constant battle to keep the yellow scratches painted black lol.

Your best bet is to find some used plastics OR you could just sand all the paint off yours, wet sand it, and then clear coat it to fill the scratches, it wont look perfect but it will last you a while until you get extra funds to get new plastics.

I painted my banshee plastics and it held for awhile it got a few rock chips here and there but nothing serious the key is good prep alot of clear and I used I believe the krylon paint that came out made for plastics like on quads and dirtbikes. I'll double check to see what I used. Also trty calling jones custom collision they p[aint atvs there and they might have a better way of doing it

Looks like a pretty clean quad. Congradulations and good look with the plastics.

If you just want to get the black off go to an auto parts store and get you some
paint reducer it will take the black paint off with alot of wiping and make sure
you use some good rubber gloves cause it will dry your hands out and
will be hard to get the paint off your hands

Congrats on the new ride. Hope you enjoy it for many years to come. Looks in good shape except the plastic. I would save money and when you break a fender then replace it all. Just a thought as mine is only a couple of years old and the plastic is really scratched up on it. From tipping over and having loads of fun. If your bikes plastic aint scratched you are either a real good rider or very Lucky. Me I am still learning to ride a quad. So I am not that great of a rider. Banshee Rick did teach me how to ride a wheelie though. bom

congrats on the purchase, it sucks about the plastics tho. I never see orange KFX's anymore.

The key to painting plastics is tons of prep work. I think I had about 8 hours worth of prep work in mine.

My Z a long time ago.

I'd try to clean all that off or get new plastics. I'm always leary of buyin bikes like that painted crappy. Thought of it as a way someone quickly wanted to disguise a stolen bike.

Wow, can't hardly believe that's the same bike! Looks real good!
Wish we could find something like that for my son when I get back to work-- You showed you can fix ugly, as long as it runs good. Smile
Have fun!
Smiles,
Mel
