1 my 2001 Suzuki 250 4wd on Sun Jun 28, 2009 9:40 pm

I have recently took apart my top end of my atv. The piston is missing a piece near the top about 1/2 inch, and i believe it is in the engine somewhere. It smokes bad and also has a ticking sound. I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice about what i should do and where to get parts cheap, or maybe if I could pay someone to rebuild it for me. Thanks!

If your not capably or comfortable splitting the cases you should take it to someone else, you might get lucky and pull the motor from the frame and turn it upside down and get it out, or it might be in the bottom oil sump, you might be able to get it from removing the side cases. Did it scratch the sleeve in the head? How does the top of the head look?

I don't believe it scratched the sleeve and the head looks normal. I might go to my uncles tomorrow who is a mechanic and see whats up. Think im going to have to replace the clutch assembly also because it is sliping. Thanks for responding and ill keep you updated Exclamation

8 Update on Wed Jul 15, 2009 10:40 pm

We took the engine out of my atv on monday. The skirt of the piston is gone. Cylender and head look fine. The piece of the piston is no where to be found. I got to thinking about my gears in the transmission slipping and was wondering if the oil leaked down into the clutch pack and caused it to slip. Anyway if anyone knows where i can get a piston, rings, piston pin, 2 piston clips, and all the engine gaskets that would be awasome. Seems like it is hard to find parts for this model.

I was looking on Ebay as Bryce suggested and I was going to ask you guys if a brand new piston for the following models:

LT 230E Quadsport 1985-1994
LT 230S 1985-1988
LT-F 230 1986-1987
LT 250F 1999
LT-4WD 1987-1996
LT 250 Quad Sport 1987-1995

Would this work for my atv considering that mine is a 2001 and the years only go up to a 1996? Mine is the stock bore.

ok here is what you have to do go to the dealers website (www.suzuki.com) find the parts you need write down the parts numbers then go to speedsuplies.com and go to the quick entry screen and type in the parts number. parts here are way cheaper. If you have any troubles call me at (816)739-9785
